For the upcoming exhibition, I aim to create an interactive installation piece to work alongside the project I completed during my study abroad that explores the difficulties of trauma recovery and feelings of alienation, overstimulation and dissociation. The installation piece will utilise the new techniques and software I have learnt while aboard, which are interactive projection mapping using TouchDesigner, a node-based program. I had a basic idea while aboard about creating a body cast with a moving image of water projected onto it, to symbolise calm or an emotional baseline, then have a motion-based sensor which will activate a new sequence with fire to simulate the sensation of being triggered. However, I plan to develop this idea further by adding a line around the body cast to symbolise the ‘boundary’ which visitors will cross that activates a video sequence that features an avant-garde with a blend of different editing styles that represent the sensation of being triggered through various clips of meat and sensual close-ups of the female body to symbolise the reality of being triggered without filtering my perspective through minimal imagery. I created a mood board of various avant-garde and surreal experimental short films, alongside other visual formats as visual inspiration for the second section of the projected video as well as books that have inspired the body horror angle I have decided to follow with this piece. I plan to keep this simple since I have focused on getting the rest of the exhibition running and set up by the deadlines that my group have agreed to.
